Hostel Majdas in Mostar has received a prestigious HOSCAR award for one of the world's best hostels in the world, according to Forbes.

HOSCAR is an acronym for HOStelworld Customer Annual Ratings; the awards are meant to showcase excellence in affordable accommodations for travelers, much like the Oscars do in the film world for movie-goers.

Hostel Majdas in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina, was honored in several categories this year, including second place for best small hostel worldwide and third place for best hostel in Europe.

The HOSCARs were based on some million reviews from travelers personal experiences at hostels in 2017, who booked their stays through Hostelworld, an online travel agent that sponsors the awards.  The company, based in Dublin, represents about 33,000 properties in 170 countries.

Criteria for the reviews includes: overall customer experience, value for money, security, location, staff, atmosphere, cleanliness and facilities. Categories were determined by property size, continent, country and city as well as a number of special areas including “best new hostel” and “best hostel for groups.”
